Urea

Urea is an ingredient mainly known for its moisturizing properties. It exists naturally in the skin and helps preserve its barrier function. Depending on the concentration, it can also be an exfoliating ingredient.

Urea, in lower concentrations, has a moisturizing action with proven effectiveness in very dry, scaly skin and cases of atopic skin.  

In higher concentrations, urea has an exfoliating effect and can be useful for hyperkeratosis or thickened skin, scalp, or nail disorders.
