Gingivitis and periodontitis are problems that affect the tissues supporting the teeth (gums). Gingivitis is a first phase of the affliction (still reversible), with gums inflammation and bleeding. Periodontitis is a much more advanced and irreversible phase that can only be treated at the dental clinic.
Gingivitis affects 75% of the population at some point in their life. It is frequently associated to plaque accumulation due to deficient oral hygiene habits.
Gingivitis can be treated at the dental clinic but the best solution is prevention: a correct daily hygiene with toothpaste and mouthwash that help prevent bacteria colonisation and plaque formation, improving overall gum health.
